World Down Syndrome Congress 2012 - Cape Town

11th WORLD DOWN SYNDROME CONGRESS 2012 CAPE TOWN SOUTH AFRICA – 12th – 14TH AUGUST 2012

The first official announcement of the World Down Syndrome Congress 2012 was held at the closing ceremony of the 2009 congress held in Dublin in August.

The new President of Down Syndrome International Mr Patrick Clarke (Ireland) officially handed over the banner and the medal to Mrs Vanessa dos Santos – President Elect and Congress organiser for 2012 received these items with enthusiasm. This is really an exciting time for the South African hosts Down Syndrome South Africa as this is the first time the World Congress will be held on African soil.

The world can certainly expect as much as they have been getting from the World Congresses in the past and more. South Africa is a vast and diverse country being able to offer a top class venue for the congress, the Cape Town International Congress Centre (CTICC).

The CTICC is so much more than just another convention centre. It is set in the heart of the Cape Town city centre, which is one of the top ten tourist destinations in the world. Cape Town is no ordinary city. So it stands to reason that the CTICC would be no ordinary convention centre. And the fact that, in just five short years, it has become widely regarded as one of the leading convention centres in the southern hemisphere bears testimony to this fact. Apart from the congress being hosted at a top class venue with the big five topics, such as RIGHTS, HEALTH, EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT AND SOCIAL, South Africa also has much more to offer, for instance the big five animals.....the lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and the elephant are other reasons to come to South Africa, so you can expect a World Congress with a taste of Africa.
